The New Mexico Pilots Association

NMPA is a not-for-profit volunteer organization of pilots and individuals who have an interest in general aviation in New Mexico. It is primarily involved in presenting aviation safety seminars throughout the state and watching out for the interests of pilots in New Mexico. NMPA keeps abreast of issues, concerns, and events which are of interest to general aviation pilots in the state and communicates with members via email and this web site. When necessary, NMPA takes a stance to protect aviation rights and privileges and to keep our airspace as open as possible.

NMPA is an affiliate state member of the United States Pilots Association (www.uspilots.org) , a national pilot organization of individual members, state affiliates, and local chapters. NMPA has five NMPA members who are state directors to USPA representing the state at USPA’s directors’ meetings. NMPA is governed by its Constitution and By-Laws. The officers consist of a president, a vice president, a secretary-treasurer. NMPA holds an annual membership meeting each June when officers are elected.

What NMPA Does:

NMPA is involved in several activities related to general aviation safety education and flying in New Mexico. These include aviation educational safety seminars; a mountain flying clinic; becoming involved in preventing actions by others which may inhibit flying safety or curtail use of flying in NM airspace; and representing the interest of general aviation pilots concerning aviation issues, situations, or concerns.

NMPA presents free FAA Safety Seminars as part of the FAA Pilot Proficiency (WINGS) Program. These are conducted as a fly-in at various airports around the state. In addition to the typical safety seminars, NMPA has also presented special aviation programs such as how to use your GPS; a daylong aerospace physiology program in a USAF high altitude chamber; aviation survival training, and our mountain flying clinic. Once a year NMPA conducts an FAA approved weekend program on mountain flying. The clinic consists of an evening seminar and three hours of flying with an experienced mountain flying CFI.

Why You Should Join NMPA:

NMPA represents the voice of those who fly in our state. If you are a pilot who flies in New Mexico or has an interest in general aviation in New Mexico you can benefit from being a member of our organization. The more members we have, the louder our voice.

The cost to join NMPA is only $25, either for an individual or for a family membership at the same address. Four reasons to be a member:

  • NMPA members are kept informed via email about aviation issues or concerns in the state by knowledgeable experts.
  • When problems arise concerning aviation issues in New Mexico such as airport problems, encroachment on airspace, or proposed rules and regulations that will negatively impact our flying; NMPA responds, representing you, the pilot.
  • NMPA is an advocate of safety education for pilots. We are the only aviation organization in New Mexico which provides fly-in FAA WINGS safety seminars at various airports throughout the state.
  • NMPA is made up of a fun group of pilots and aviation enthusiasts! Most fly-in safety seminars culminate with a lunch after the seminar.
